Dr Christopher Norwood

    Dr Norwood is a distinguished engineer and recognised expert in maritime platform acoustic signatures; machinery vibration isolation; and maritime platform survivability. He was responsible for establishing the Australian defence science capability in ship and submarine acoustic signatures; and was integral in the analysis and rectification of the acoustic signature problems that occurred early in the Collins Class submarine. He led the development of a number of innovative analysis and prediction tools and pioneered several world- first measurement and diagnostic techniques. He also has experience in maritime platform survivability and non-acoustic signature management. As the Minister Counsellor for Defence Science in London he led Australia’s bilateral defence science engagement with UK, NATO and other European nations. During his term in London, he oversaw the resigning of bilateral agreements with UK, France and Sweden. He has over 80 publications, including journal papers and book chapters to his name
